Reading is one of the things you learn in childhood, at home and at school. It’s a basic need, but many feel compelled to browse through books because of the education that teaches us to keep studying. School is essential, but no one teaches us that we could read for our pleasure and benefit from it.
If you feel unmotivated or undecided about what to do, this article is for you!
Premise: Not all books are boring
There are various types of books, alongside a wide choice of genres ranging from narrative, romance, mystery, fantasy, adventure, dystopian, thriller, etc. I understand that this may be confusing but to start with, you should choose a genre that you feel closest to: if the storyline seems interesting to you, give it a shot. If the first reading doesn’t satisfy you, don’t worry! It’s not over here, you just learned what you like and what you don’t. You shouldn’t close the door after just one try; sooner or later, you’ll find something that’ll suit you better!
Empathize
Reading teaches us to empathize with the characters, feel their emotions, observe their behaviours and understand their needs. Your life is not a fictional book, but this is something you can apply every day to improve yourself and your actions towards others. Your experiences will remain yours, but you’ll gain knowledge from them.
Focus and Attention
Studies and research have proven that reading improves our focus and attention. Exercising our brain stimulates its circuits and signals, causing them to become stronger and more active. It’s like cycling towards a goal, a success for our physical and mental health.

Disconnect from the world
A great benefit of reading is the ability to disconnect from everything and everyone in the world. Our life is so frenetic that we don’t realize how much space away we need from rumours, commitments and negativity.
But a good book always comes to the rescue! You can read an interesting and compelling story that will let you forget your anxieties and fears. Falling in love with places and characters improves your creativity and helps you to take a moment for yourself.
I hope you will try, start or continue walking this road, where fantastic worlds and new passions are just waiting to be discovered and benefit from this opportunity.
